About Colin
I’m Colin Willemsen, a 20 year old landscape and nature photographer currently living in Bellingham, Washington. I fell in love with photography while growing up in Duluth, Minnesota along the North Shore of Lake Superior. Indeed this is the location where a majority of my body of work is centered around. For me, photography grew out of an inherent love for the landscape. Overtime, I worked to amass an intimate knowledge of the region that I strive to express through my photographs.
At the current moment, I am attending Western Washington University where I am studying Marine and Coastal Science. I’ve especially appreciated the knowledge I’ve gained from geology classes, as many of the concepts we’ve studied have been extremely relatable to the landscapes I frequent and the images I make. I’m continuing to explore the extremely varied Washington landscape and making new images along the way.
In my photographs I strive to express the moments in which the image is made: the self-realizations, the amazement, and any of the other gamut of ineffable feelings I experience while in the landscape. I hope that as the viewer, you are also able to draw upon your own life experience when you contemplate a photo of mine. I love hearing what images resonate with people; don’t be shy in reaching out!
